I caught this beautiful male Wisconsin fisher this morning in a blind set on a coon trail in the creek. Unfortunately, I could not harvest it and had to release him because Wisconsin makes you wait every other year for a fisher tag, even though they are found in every square mile of woods, and also, when you do draw a tag, the season only runs from mid-Oct through December. So I released this fella unharmed.
Note the trap, which has offset jaws, meaning there is a large gap around the paw, so this fisher was held securely but in no pain and it doesn't hurt or damage whatsoever. I've said it many times, but just like a pair of handcuffs. I simply opened the trap and took its paw out, and it went on its way unharmed.
